Credit report errors

When your credit report is wrong

The bureaus have to investigate a dispute and fix what’s wrong. When they don’t, the law gives you a claim.

We draft the dispute with the proof attached, send it to each bureau and to the company that reported the error, and follow up when the answer is a form letter. Federal credit reporting law makes the bureau or the company pay your lawyer’s fees when it broke the rules; you may still owe court costs, and we explain them first.

We fix

  • Paid or settled debts shown as unpaid

  • Accounts opened by someone else

  • Another person’s name or debts in your file

How a dispute goes from us

  • Pull all three reports

So we can see which bureaus show the error.

  • Draft it with the proof

Payoff letters, statements, a police report for identity theft.

  • Check the answer

If the error stays, we talk about a claim.

Credit report questions

Should I dispute online?

A written dispute with copies of your proof makes a record. Our letter kit has the one we start from.

Will a dispute lower my score?

No. Disputing an error doesn’t hurt your score, and fixing it can help.

How long does a bureau have to answer?

The law sets a short window for most disputes. We track it from the day the bureau receives yours.
