Danuta Pawlikowska, arms crossed, in a sage sweater over a white collar

Danuta Pawlikowska

Executive director and supervising attorney. Lemon cars and dealer cases.

Danuta started the clinic after years of watching people sign car loans they couldn’t read.

She spent her first years as a lawyer at a legal aid office on the Southwest Side, where most of her clients had a car problem behind their money problem. She now supervises every case the clinic takes and still handles the lemon and dealer files herself.

Why she reads the buyer’s order first

The buyer’s order is the one sheet that shows what a dealer actually charged. Danuta reads it before the loan, the warranty or the ad, because the gap between them is usually the case.

In a lemon case she builds the repair history the same way: every visit, in order, with the days the car sat at the shop.
